On Friday, we have a lunch walk planned in which we will tap the following highlights: Future Plan Treehouse Project, Luchtsingel, DakAkker and Waterplein.
The 350-meter-long Luchtsingel was the connecting element with which architectural firm ZUS managed to breathe new life into a decaying and isolated piece of city. An entire area development project was hung on the elongated wooden construction.
Two innovative examples of climate adaptation can be found on the edge of the petrified city center. On top of the roof of the creative incubator Schieblock is the largest open-air rooftop farm in the Netherlands. The DakAkker increases biodiversity, reduces heat stress in the city and also provides small-scale local food production. A little further on, the stony Bentheim Square has been transformed into a smart and future-proof Water Square in collaboration with the surrounding schools, among others. Special reservoirs collect excess rainwater to relieve the sewer system. On dry days, the square is a spectacular sports field for schoolchildren.”
